Long Version of Bio:

Professor Kamau Kenyatta grew up in South Carolina during the peak of strict racial segregation. His character and work ethic were shaped from the hard work in the tobacco and cotton fields of his grandparent's sharecropping farm. "Probably the best thing that happened to me," says Kenyatta, "was growing up with grandparents who instilled in me the absolute knowledge that I could be and do whatever I wanted to despite racial limitations set by society."

One of the guiding principles of his life, he says, comes from something his grandfather repeatedly said to him throughout his childhood. "Whatever you do, no matter what you do, do it right. Even if you only sit down, sit down right."

At age twelve, Kenyatta decided to become a drummer and made his first sticks out of the branches of a China Berry tree. He used old cans and discarded boxes for his first drums. From this experience he found another guiding principle, which he says is: "If and when you really want to do something, you'll find a way even if you don't have the money, the knowledge or the support...and... there's nothing and no one who can stop you."

Kenyatta has combined his degrees in Music and Business from Jersey City State College, Religion & History from Princeton Theological Seminary and Africa-World Studies from Temple University into a matchless and compelling style with a relevant message to the contemporary world.

Although African-World Studies is his discipline, he uses psychology, sociology, economics, biology, philosophy, history and humor to get his points across. He has been teaching college for over 15 years --10 of those years in his current position as professor at William Paterson University.

Kenyatta is also a business owner and remains in demand as a speaker on such topics as Business Ownership, African American History and culture and a variety of contemporary issues affecting America and particularly the African-world community. He has appeared on numerous radio and television programs throughout the country.
